The Police Discovered Huge Caches of Ammunition in Luhansk Oblast

Yesterday, February 28, 2015, investigators of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Luhansk Oblast together with policemen from Chernivtsi Oblast discovered caches of ammunition and weapons. The amount of ammunition was more than enough to commit many acts of terrorism. The policemen had to use a truck to remove the arsenal.

In a remote village of Svatove Raion, Luhansk Oblast, near an abandoned house, policemen discovered a basement, covered and camouflaged with dirt and construction waste. Having opened the door and entered the basement, the investigators found caches of ammunition and weapons.

Criminals thoroughly disguised caches and set up a trap in the abandoned house: they installed several improvised explosive devices. If a random person or teenager accidentally would get into the house, an explosion would be so powerful that it would wipe away half of the village.

The investigators seized seven boxes of 7.62 mm ammunition (6,160 rounds), five boxes with F1 grenades (90 grenades and 80 fuses), eight MON-50 anti-personnel mines, two boxes of TNT (52 kg), eleven anti-tank grenades and fuses for RPG-7Lgrenade launcher, 36 RKG-3 anti-tank grenades wit 36 fuses, eleven smoke bombs, seven anti-tank mines, one assault rifle, one hand gun, gun powder, and other ammunition.

Also, they found a bag with documents and pieces of evidence that were listed as stolen in the criminal investigations of robberies and murders.

A criminal proceeding in terms of  Part 1, Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives” has been initiated.
