Two `Heroes’ of Donbas were buried in Tolyatti

Quite often, we get confirmation of the participation of the Russian military in the undeclared war against Ukraine from indirect sources. One source of such confirmation is when Russian servicemen and their friends or relatives post mourning comments or images of candles in memory of fallen comrades on social media websites. Additionally, sometimes indirect evidence of the death of Russian soldiers appears on forums and niche sites dedicated to cities and regions. This is the case with the following article posted back in March on the website of the city of Tolyatti.

“They were buried today, March 6, with full military honors — the salute performed by soldiers, apparently from the 3rd Spetsnaz GRU Brigade based in Tolyatti, with an orchestra. The graves are on the Honor Alley of Banykinsk cemetery, next to the other soldiers who died for their homeland”.

“They were two Andreys. They were over forty. According to the writing on the wreaths both were paratroopers”.

“Both died on January 28.  In this period the operation that eventually led to the hardest defeat of Ukrainian troops at Debaltsevo had just started”.

“There were two zinc coffins. The names were written on each of them with a thick black marker. About 200 people (in a very rough estimation) came to the funeral. Apparently, the relatives did not want to advertise the funeral for their personal reasons (there were no secrecy or any problems at all — nobody was denied access to the cemetery). Yesterday, someone shared the information in social media; only because of this did I arrive at the cemetery. Apparently there were no random people except me; or almost none”.

“I have not photographed the crosses and I will not tell you the names of the dead, because, as I wrote earlier, the relatives, at least at this time, do not want to discuss the topic of their service or their deaths. If you want to honor their memory, just come to the Honor Alley.”
