In the course of identifying units and armaments of the Russian invasion forces based in Rostov Oblast, we found evidence that an artillery unit of the 244th Artillery Brigade of Coastal Defense from the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy is present in Rostov Oblast. This has been confirmed by information from social media websites, such as pictures with geo tags and comments of servicemen from this brigade.
According to this information, there was a rotation of personnel from this unit. The servicemen withdrawn from Rostov Oblast, were sent to Luga artillery firing range in Leningrad Oblast.
Also related to these findings, we want to remind you about the 2A36 Giatsint-B 152 mm long-range guns towed by BAZ-6306 trucks that were detected in the vicinity of Matveev-Kurgan last March (https://informnapalm.org/en/sweet-couple-baz-6306-and-giatsint-b-on-the-border-of-ukraine/). At that time we were not able to identify the exact military unit those guns belonged to. Now we can say with a high degree of certainty that these artillery pieces were deployed by the 244th Artillery Brigade.
This is not the only unit of Coastal Defense from Kaliningrad that has been sent to Rostov Oblast. Last year we indentified a unit of the 336th Marine Brigade of the Baltic Fleet in the Russian invasion forces group.
Note: The 244th Artillery Brigade of Coastal Defense of the Baltic Fleet is a military unit, No. 41603 based in Kaliningrad. Its primary firepower consists of 2A36 Giatsint-B towed 152 mm field guns and BM-21 Grad 122 mm multiple rocket launchers.
