Volunteers of the InformNapalm international volunteer community continue to record the facts of media terrorism in the context of the escalation in the Avdiivka area and along the demarcation line in Donbas.<\/p>\n

At the end of December we already noted that militants intensified provocative shellings<\/a> of the territory under their control, suggesting Russia\u2019s intent to heighten tensions in the conflict zone.<\/p>\n

We will now review another example of a provocation, which immediately preceeded the escalation in the fighting.<\/p>\n

On January, 26, 2017, once it became dark, Russian-terrorist troops started intensive shelling of Ukrainian Army positions simultaneously from multiple locations in residential areas along the demarcation line, trying to draw return fire.<\/p>\n

Having failed to achieve the desired result, they used a well-known tactic: shelling of the occupied territory to provide Russian media with the images it required. Donetsk, Bryanka (Luhansk Oblast)<\/a>, Horlivka and other cities in the occupied territory became the targets of shelling. Russia took care of providing media coverage of the incidents.<\/p>\n

It is very difficult to analyze all provocations, but when Russian channels\u2019 reports contain photos and videos, the inconsistencies in propagandists\u2019 interpretations of the events come to light. For this analysis, we were able to find photos and videos of a point of impact in Bryanka<\/a>. We established that the location of the impact was near apartment building 8 in Molodezhnyy microdistrict, and Olymp supermarket (see map<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Additionally, we use a video from the Russian propaganda channel \u201cANNA-News\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now let us consider these photos in more detail. They do not show the area between the apartment building and the supermarket, nor we can see the impact crater. The traces of fire at the second floor level of apartment building 8 (pictures 4, 5, 6) and the type of damage (the broken balcony side panels and the damaged side wall of entrance) allow us to state that the point of impact was close to that wall. And the absence of damage on the side wall of the building 8 means that the explosion occurred in front of the building.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Photo number 6 shows this place. So why do we not see the crater? Actually, the crater was so small, that it was covered by dirt, whether accidentally or intentionally. The kind of damage also suggests a low yield ordnance: you can see windows and\u00a0 plastic cover damaged, tree branches cut; but there was no significant harm done to the walls or the tree standing in close proximity. The effective range for such ordnances is within 3 km.<\/p>\n

The crater is visible in the \u201cAnna News\u201d video: it is located next to the tree and has a very small size – approximately 50 cm. There is no prominent ellipse, which is typical for situations, when the ordnance is launched on a high-angle trajectory from a location in the immediate vicinity<\/strong>. You can see the crater covered by tree branches in picture 6 – note that the branches, allegedly fallen, are located only next to the crater.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A bit later we see the same crater, but it has been dug up and prepared for taping, and someone even indicated the \u201cellipse\u201d to match the desired direction.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But, despite the small size of the crater, the speaker of \u201cLuhansk People\u2019s Republic (LPR)\u201d terrorist organization Andrei Marochko<\/a> asserts that it was a 152mm artillery shell that impacted here. In this case, the militants are trying to mislead viewers by voicing the theories suitable for propaganda.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Notably, Russian officers from Joint Centre for Ceasefire Control and Coordination (JCCC) constantly participate in propaganda performances, just like it was in Debaltseve<\/a> shelling. This means that Russian officers perform not only reconnaissance, but also propaganda tasks, and their presence in the occupied territory is legitimized by JCCC.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Another important detail is that apartment building 8 covers the point of impact from the west, so there is no chance the shell could come from Ukrainian Army positions. But Russian propaganda is not interested in facts. The scene has to contain more drama, so some \u201cweepers\u201d were brought out, imploring Russia to save them from the \u201cKyiv junta\u201d.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The escalation in Avdiivka and in other areas, constant provocative shelling of Ukrainian Army positions, conducted by Russian militants from residential areas, and shelling of civilians indicate that Russia plans to increase the intensity of armed hostilities. And, when provocative shelling of Ukrainian positions doesn\u2019t bring results, because Ukrainian Army does not fire back at residential districts, the propagandists fall back on staged shelling, presenting it as \u201cjunta punishment operations\u201d.<\/p>\n

Analysis of Bryanka shelling."}]},{"@type":"WebSite","@id":"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/en\/#website","url":"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/en\/","name":"InformNapalm.org (English)","description":"Latest News from Ukraine","potentialAction":[{"@type":"SearchAction","target":{"@type":"EntryPoint","urlTemplate":"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/en\/?s={search_term_string}"},"query-input":{"@type":"PropertyValueSpecification","valueRequired":true,"valueName":"search_term_string"}}],"inLanguage":"en-US"},{"@type":"Person","@id":"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/en\/#\/schema\/person\/d9ac22904157eeb67f0b60921e87d8bf","name":"vasgri","image":{"@type":"ImageObject","inLanguage":"en-US","@id":"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/en\/#\/schema\/person\/image\/","url":"https:\/\/secure.gravatar.com\/avatar\/5851afa9a0b73acb616f1433ce0c88213f283b6c8f0d65289e0763ccd1703343?s=96&d=mm&r=g","contentUrl":"https:\/\/secure.gravatar.com\/avatar\/5851afa9a0b73acb616f1433ce0c88213f283b6c8f0d65289e0763ccd1703343?s=96&d=mm&r=g","caption":"vasgri"},"url":"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/en\/author\/vasgri\/"}]}},"post_src":"Volunteers of the InformNapalm international volunteer community continue to record the facts of media terrorism in the context of the escalation in the Avdiivka area and along the demarcation line in Donbas.\r\n\r\nAt the end of December we already noted that <a href=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/en\/media-terrorism-debaltseve-militants-intensified-provocations-shelling-territory-control\/\">militants intensified provocative shellings<\/a> of the territory under their control, suggesting Russia\u2019s intent to heighten tensions in the conflict zone.\r\n\r\nWe will now review another example of a provocation, which immediately preceeded the escalation in the fighting.\r\n\r\nOn January, 26, 2017, once it became dark, Russian-terrorist troops started intensive shelling of Ukrainian Army positions simultaneously from multiple locations in residential areas along the demarcation line, trying to draw return fire.\r\n\r\nHaving failed to achieve the desired result, they used a well-known tactic: shelling of the occupied territory to provide Russian media with the images it required. <a href=\"https:\/\/donpress.com\/news\/27-01-2017-obstrel-bryanki-lyudi-na-moroze-ostalis-bez-okon-gorod-nenavidit-boevikov\">Donetsk, Bryanka (Luhansk Oblast)<\/a>, Horlivka and other cities in the occupied territory became the targets of shelling. Russia took care of providing media coverage of the incidents.\r\n\r\nIt is very difficult to analyze all provocations, but when Russian channels\u2019 reports contain photos and videos, the inconsistencies in propagandists\u2019 interpretations of the events come to light. For this analysis, we were able to find photos and videos of a point of impact in <a href=\"https:\/\/vk.com\/debaltsevo.dnr365?w=wall-87701731_139917\">Bryanka<\/a>. We established that the location of the impact was near apartment building 8 in Molodezhnyy microdistrict, and Olymp supermarket (see <a href=\"https:\/\/yandex.ua\/maps\/24886\/brianka\/?lang=ru&ll=38.636200%2C48.508532&z=19&mode=whatshere&text=%D0%BC%D0%B0%D0%B3%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B8%D0%BD%20%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%BC%D0%BF&sll=38.677382%2C48.485255&sspn=0.407181%2C0.145612&ol=biz&oid=88188160210&whatshere%25\">map<\/a>).\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/1.png\" \/>\r\n\r\n<em>Here are pictures 1-7 from the top down in sequence:<\/em>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/2.png\" \/>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/3.png\" \/>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/4.png\" \/>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/5.png\" \/>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/6.png\" \/>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/7.png\" \/>\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/8.png\" \/>\r\n\r\nAdditionally, we use a video from the Russian propaganda channel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KWx-1w_dhd8&feature=youtu.be\">\u201cANNA-News\u201d<\/a>.\r\n\r\nNow let us consider these photos in more detail. They do not show the area between the apartment building and the supermarket, nor we can see the impact crater. The traces of fire at the second floor level of apartment building 8 (pictures 4, 5, 6) and the type of damage (the broken balcony side panels and the damaged side wall of entrance) allow us to state that the point of impact was close to that wall. And the absence of damage on the side wall of the building 8 means that the explosion occurred in front of the building.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/9.png\" \/>\r\n\r\nPhoto number 6 shows this place. So why do we not see the crater? Actually, the crater was so small, that it was covered by dirt, whether accidentally or intentionally. The kind of damage also suggests a low yield ordnance: you can see windows and\u00a0 plastic cover damaged, tree branches cut; but there was no significant harm done to the walls or the tree standing in close proximity. The effective range for such ordnances is within 3 km.\r\n\r\nThe crater is visible in the \u201cAnna News\u201d video: it is located next to the tree and has a very small size - approximately 50 cm. There is no prominent ellipse, <strong>which is typical for situations, when the ordnance is launched on a high-angle trajectory from a location in the immediate vicinity<\/strong>. You can see the crater covered by tree branches in picture 6 - note that the branches, allegedly fallen, are located only next to the crater.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/10.png\" \/>\r\n\r\nA bit later we see the same crater, but it has been dug up and prepared for taping, and someone even indicated the \u201cellipse\u201d to match the desired direction.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/11.png\" \/>\r\n\r\nBut, despite the small size of the crater, the speaker of \u201cLuhansk People\u2019s Republic (LPR)\u201d terrorist organization <a href=\"https:\/\/myrotvorets.center\/criminal\/marochko-andrej-vitalevich\/\">Andrei Marochko<\/a> asserts that it was a 152mm artillery shell that impacted here. In this case, the militants are trying to mislead viewers by voicing the theories suitable for propaganda.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/12.png\" \/>\r\n\r\nNotably, Russian officers from Joint Centre for Ceasefire Control and Coordination (JCCC) constantly participate in propaganda performances, just like it was in <a href=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/en\/media-terrorism-debaltseve-militants-intensified-provocations-shelling-territory-control\/\">Debaltseve<\/a> shelling. This means that Russian officers perform not only reconnaissance, but also propaganda tasks, and their presence in the occupied territory is legitimized by JCCC.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/13.png\" \/>\r\n\r\nAnother important detail is that apartment building 8 covers the point of impact from the west, so there is no chance the shell could come from Ukrainian Army positions. But Russian propaganda is not interested in facts. The scene has to contain more drama, so some \u201cweepers\u201d were brought out, imploring Russia to save them from the \u201cKyiv junta\u201d.\r\n\r\n<img src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/14.png\" \/>\r\n\r\nThe escalation in Avdiivka and in other areas, constant provocative shelling of Ukrainian Army positions, conducted by Russian militants from residential areas, and shelling of civilians indicate that Russia plans to increase the intensity of armed hostilities.
