Photo by ImageSat International dated May 3, 2017.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>On May 9,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/2017\/05\/09\/russia-sends-more-weapons-to-syria-ahead-lavrov-visit-to-washington.html\">Fox News<\/a>, referring to sources in the Pentagon, reported the shipment of twenty-one (it is a full-fledged artillery battalion) M-30 122-mm howitzer from Russia to the Syrian port of Tartus.\u00a0The shipment of the weapons took place within a few days after the memorandum on the four &#8220;de-escalation zones&#8221; in Syria, adopted on May 4 at a meeting in Astana by the diplomats of the Russian Federation, Iran and Turkey. On May 8, Russia also introduced a draft of the resolution in the UN. In response to this step, US Secretary of Defense James Mattis\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hosted.ap.org\/dynamic\/stories\/E\/EU_UNITED_STATES_SYRIA_SAFE_ZONES?SITE=AP&amp;SECTION=HOME&amp;TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&amp;CTIME=2017-05-08-07-01-54\">said\u00a0<\/a>that the &#8220;de-escalation zones&#8221; proposed by Russia raise a lot of questions, for which there are as yet no answers.\u00a0&#8220;The devil is always in the details,&#8221; Mattis said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Read also: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/en\/russian-bombs-civilians\/\"><em>Who bombs civilians in Syria: profiles of 116 RuAF officers (infographics).<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/en\/situation-report-on-global-security-as-of-may-4-2017\/\">review from May 4<\/a>, we have already suggested that Russia\u2019s attempt to impose its rules on the \u201cde-escalation zones\u201d reinforces its plans for the legalization and expansion of the contingent of Russian ground troops in Syria.
