Russian occupiers in the village of Khurvaleti"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>After the August war between Russia and Georgia in 2008, and Russia&#8217;s recognition of the self-proclaimed republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the Georgian population of the occupied territories and near the demarcation line was subjected to unremitting terror by the occupation regimes of these two formations.\u00a0Almost every day there are reports of kidnapping of Georgian citizens for ransom, murder, and attempts to seize new Georgian territories by Russian puppet regimes in both republics.\u00a0In December 2018, InformNapalm published\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/bg\/marionetniyat-rezhim-na-moskva-v-yuzhna-os\/\"><strong>material<\/strong><\/a><strong> on the ongoing tensions on the demarcation line and on the initiative of Georgian activists who voluntarily patrol and monitor the moves of Russian occupiers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the past week, the tension has escalated again in the Georgian village of Khurvaleti where \u201cSouth Ossetia\u201d has been stepping up since late last year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Masked armed Russian border guards in Georgian territory.\u00a0Chronology<\/h2>\n<p>On March 15, village residents\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgianjournal.ge\/politics\/35661-georgian-state-security-service-denies-presence-of-russian-soldiers-on-georgian-controlled-territory.html\">reported<\/a>\u00a0to the Power in Unity anti-occupation movement that armed Russian border guards in masks have entered the territory controlled by Tbilisi and are in the gardens of local residents.\u00a0In Facebook, the movement leader Davit Katsarava\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/david.katsarava\/posts\/2425341990823863\">called<\/a>\u00a0on the citizens and the Georgian government for a timely response.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 356px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/bg\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/03\/19-03-16-%D0%93%D1%80%D1%83%D0%B7%D0%B8%D1%8F-%D0%A5%D1%83%D1%80%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BB%D0%B5%D1%82%D0%B8-00-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"346\" height=\"454\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The photo was provided by the inhabitants of Khurvaleti to the Power in Unity anti-occupation movement<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The members of the movement and other various Georgian civil organizations fighting the Russian occupation headed for the conflict location but were\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rustavi2.ge\/en\/news\/128353\">apprehended at a checkpoint<\/a>\u00a0by the Georgian police and were not allowed into the village. Georgian authorities have reported that there were no foreign troops in the territory of Khurvaleti. They were taken there in police cars and accompanied by Georgian police.\u00a0Davit Katsarava from the Power in Unity movement was not included in the group.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/rustavi2.ge\/en\/news\/128403\">the admitted monitoring group<\/a>, the tracks left in the gardens led to the conclusion that the occupiers made preparations to install a fence, but gave up after the interference of the citizens and the Georgian law enforcement forces.<\/p>\n<p>Currently there are no representatives of the occupation authorities in the village, the police remain at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Civilian activists have withdrawn but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.interpressnews.ge\/ru\/article\/112283-grazhdanskie-aktivisty-trebuiut-patrulirovaniia-v-sele-khurvaleti-v-24-chasovom-rezhime\/\">urged<\/a>\u00a0the authorities to appoint police patrols for guarding the site around the clock.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Citizens&#8217; patrol<\/h2>\n<p>Power in Unity is a civil anti-occupation movement that is not related to any political power.\u00a0Georgian activists announced its creation in July 2017, when \u201cSouth Ossetia\u201d once again moved the border signs near \u200b\u200bthe village of Bershueti 500 meters into the Georgian territory and grabbed another 10 hectares of land.\u00a0Volunteers have patrolled for more than a year on the so-called\u00a0border with \u201cSouth Ossetia\u201d to prevent new occupation of Georgian land by Russian occupiers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/bg\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/03\/%D0%90%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%86%D0%B8-300x300.jpg\" width=\"192\" height=\"192\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Irakliy Sukhumskiy<\/strong>, a member of the Power in Unity Voluntary Patrol commented on the situation in Khurvaleti for InformNapalm:<br \/>\n<em>&#8220;In summary, I can comment on several facts: On March 15, Russian occupiers have entered the territory controlled by Georgia.\u00a0No matter how many countries try to hide this fact, there is already a clear picture of everything.\u00a0For some reason, the occupiers came back to the terrain they stood before March 15.\u00a0It is possible that after the escalation of tension, talks have been held and some agreement has been reached.\u00a0An action against the movement activists fighting the creeping occupation has started, trying to discredit us accusing us of unnecessary panic and tension.\u00a0For the authorities in Georgia, the occupation forces&#8217; methods to gradually grab new and new territories may be unimportant.\u00a0For us, however, there are no doubts that they seize villages, towns or small plots of land every day. The Ombudsman&#8217;s office confirms that they also have similar information.<\/p>\n<p>Several days before the exacerbation of the situation in Khurvaleti on the so-called &#8220;border&#8221; between Georgia and Abkhazia, the\u00a029-year-old Irakli Kvaratskhelia, a resident of Georgia, devoted church-goer and a young father,\u00a0was kidnapped.\u00a0The young man was detained on March 10 by the Abkhaz authorities when he crosses the border where his relatives live.\u00a0He was taken to the Russian military base in Nabakevi, and hours later the Abkhaz authorities reported that he had committed suicide by hanging.\u00a0Kvaratskhelia&#8217;s close relatives\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/abkhazeti.info\/abkhazia\/2018\/1552513845.php?fbclid=IwAR1oaXX3snuwqwhBbW77SjUIK5hN7GiGCtFQzQUaIaXqXspUhDIaFLftTJg\">claim<\/a>ed that there were signs of beating, torture, and electric shock on his body.\u00a0An investigation has been conducted in Georgia, the results of which have not yet been published.<\/p>\n<p>This is the latest in a series of unpunished killings of Georgian citizens kidnapped by soldiers of occupation regimes in self-proclaimed republics.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Wounds, sorrow, anger, death, barbed wire, wars, and armed men with masks: these are the Georgian-Russian relations today.\u00a0Not &#8220;tourism&#8221;, &#8220;Khinkali&#8221;, &#8220;Saakashvili&#8221;, &#8220;songs and dances\u201d.\u00a0Nobody is going to tell you this on TV, but you have to know it because of the uniforms, the weapon, the barbed wire, the bullets, and the whole pain that Russia brings to Georgia, and you still pay for this today&#8221;,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/echo.msk.ru\/blog\/esk1\/2389461-echo\/?fbclid=IwAR3a5lHIqG3BOm6i_CyX_8beCZ-NP4qEM6NF4SH5tAHDSZYhrTpyRvRmi8M\">bitterly summarized in his blog<\/a>\u00a0Egor Kuroptev, journalist and author of the Borderline broadcast which closely follows what is happening in Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, March 17th, the Georgian diaspora held rallies under the slogan &#8220;No Occupation&#8221; at the Russian Embassies in various countries around the world. Georgian authorities have reported that there were no foreign troops in the territory of Khurvaleti. They were taken there in police cars and accompanied by Georgian police.\u00a0Davit Katsarava from the Power in Unity movement was not included in the group.\r\n\r\nAccording to <a href=\"http:\/\/rustavi2.ge\/en\/news\/128403\">the admitted monitoring group<\/a>, the tracks left in the gardens led to the conclusion that the occupiers made preparations to install a fence, but gave up after the interference of the citizens and the Georgian law enforcement forces.\r\n\r\nCurrently there are no representatives of the occupation authorities in the village, the police remain at the scene.\r\n\r\nCivilian activists have withdrawn but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.interpressnews.ge\/ru\/article\/112283-grazhdanskie-aktivisty-trebuiut-patrulirovaniia-v-sele-khurvaleti-v-24-chasovom-rezhime\/\">urged<\/a>\u00a0the authorities to appoint police patrols for guarding the site around the clock.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<h2>Citizens' patrol<\/h2>\r\nPower in Unity is a civil anti-occupation movement that is not related to any political power.\u00a0Georgian activists announced its creation in July 2017, when \u201cSouth Ossetia\u201d once again moved the border signs near \u200b\u200bthe village of Bershueti 500 meters into the Georgian territory and grabbed another 10 hectares of land.\u00a0Volunteers have patrolled for more than a year on the so-called\u00a0border with \u201cSouth Ossetia\u201d to prevent new occupation of Georgian land by Russian occupiers.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/informnapalm.org\/bg\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/03\/%D0%90%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%86%D0%B8-300x300.jpg\" width=\"192\" height=\"192\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>Irakliy Sukhumskiy<\/strong>, a member of the Power in Unity Voluntary Patrol commented on the situation in Khurvaleti for InformNapalm:\r\n<em>\"In summary, I can comment on several facts: On March 15, Russian occupiers have entered the territory controlled by Georgia.\u00a0No matter how many countries try to hide this fact, there is already a clear picture of everything.\u00a0For some reason, the occupiers came back to the terrain they stood before March 15.\u00a0It is possible that after the escalation of tension, talks have been held and some agreement has been reached.\u00a0An action against the movement activists fighting the creeping occupation has started, trying to discredit us accusing us of unnecessary panic and tension.\u00a0For the authorities in Georgia, the occupation forces' methods to gradually grab new and new territories may be unimportant.\u00a0For us, however, there are no doubts that they seize villages, towns or small plots of land every day.
