On February 8, 2021, Dmitriy Peskov, the Press Secretary of the Russian president, stated that protection of the \u201cRussian World\u201d has been and will remain a priority of the Russian government. According to the statement, Moscow believes that Ukraine is also a part of this world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Peskov emphasized that there is a great number of Russians and Russian-speaking people residing in Ukraine. He believes those people are part of the \u201cRussian World\u201d, therefore, Russia will continue its current policies towards Ukraine with the help of \u2018soft power\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Russian President\u2019s spokesperson also emphasized that Russia never used methods that would violate any international norms. This statement is an outright lie, because it was Russia that occupied the Ukrainian Crimea and continues an aggressive hybrid war against Ukraine in the Donbas region. The International volunteer community InformNapalm has debunked the statements of the Russian president\u2019s spokesperson multiple times. This statement by Dmitriy Peskov appeared after a recent imposition of sanctions<\/a> by the Ukrainian government <\/span>\u00a0against pro-Russian TV channels in Ukraine. The beneficiary of those TV channels is Viktor Medvedchuk, a Ukrainian oligarch and a close associate of the Russian president Vladimir Putin. Vladimir Putin is a god father of Medvedchuk\u2019s daughter, which makes their connection even closer.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his public statement, Dmitriy Peskov says that Russia will rely exclusively on \u2018soft power\u2019 in its relations with Ukraine. It should be noted that Russia\u2019s interpretation of this term is different from that of the rest of the world.
