Yevhen Bereznyak \u2014 &#8216;Major Whirlwind&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nazi command gave an order to mine and destroy the ancient Polish city of Krak\u00f3w to stop the advance of the Soviet Army. Yevhen Bereznyak, a schoolteacher from Dnipropetrovsk, was commander of a reconnaissance unit of the 1st Ukrainian Front in 1944. Yevhen and his unit got the mining maps and saved Krak\u00f3w&#8230; to celebrate the Victory day in the NKVD filtration camp.<\/p>\n<p>The Government of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance created videos telling stories of outstanding Ukrainians in the WW2. Directed by Oles Sanin.
