The volunteer civil defense organization in Kharkiv has issued a call for volunteers to assist in building defensive structures along the border against a possible Russian invasion. This call demonstrates that people of the city realize that despite the ceasefire, the possibility of Russian troops attempting to invade their region remains high. The response of the citizens of Kharkiv demonstrates that people are determined to defend their region and their city.
Translation of Public Call For Volunteers Issued:
Fortify and strengthen the border, protect your place!!!
Kharkov is one of the least defended (fortified) Ukrainian cities. Our border line with TerroRussia stretches for 350 km and the ditch is only 20 km long.
Because of the explosions of military actions and increased activity of the internal enemy (enemy from within called “quilted jackets” or “thugs for hire”), WE the ‘Civil Guard”, Eastern Corps, Kharkiv guerillas, have taken the decision to help strengthen the border.
The Objective: to prevent the advance of the Russian military forces into the Kharkiv area.
Our Tasks:
– digging a ditch 4×2
– creating defensive posts (fire nests) out of concrete (cement) blocks
– building dug-outs
Meeting: Thursday 11.09.2014 at 9 a.m. Trade Center Karavan( metro station Geroyev Truda), exit to the gas station “Ovis”. This is a whole day trip to the area of Volchansk. The return bus fare is 70 hr.
