Russia Withdrew Its Resolution at UN Security Council Not Wishing to Condemn Terrorist Actions in Eastern Ukraine

on 06/17/2014 | | Main News | News Print This Post Print This Post

Russian media reports that the alleged “deliberate blocking by the Western delegations at the Security Council” of Moscow’s initiatives regarding the deprecation of protests in front of the Russian Embassy in Kiev is not true. This is stated in the comment of the current representative of Ukraine to the United Nations. Russia withdrew its resolution in the UN Security Council, not wanting to condemn the actions of terrorists in eastern Ukraine.

“In fact, as we know, the draft statement was rejected by the Russian side itself due to its refusal to include the thesis proposed by other delegations expressing strong condemnation of the destruction of Ukrainian plane IL-76 by terrorists in the skies over Luhansk, which led to death of 49 domestic military. In the same paragraph deep condolences would be expressed to families of the bereaved”, – said Sergeev.

In addition, according to Sergeev, a draft statement has been amended with the thesis “about the need to strengthen border security in eastern Ukraine and stop illegal movement of arms and militants in border regions”.

However, the Ukrainian diplomat stressed that for some reason, the real reason of the rejection of the document at the Security Council member’s consultation, held on 14 June, is ignored in Russia. He expressed the belief that it “clearly demonstrates the real intentions of the Russian side” for an immediate solution of the conflict in the East of Ukraine, to which Russian leadership is constantly urging.
