Terrorist acts against Ukrainian servicemen planned for Ukrainian Independence Day on the 24th August were prevented as a result of a special operation by “Aidar” and “Chernihiv” Territorial Defense Battalions and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). A group of saboteurs was neutralized.
On August 24 in the area of Severodonetsk (Luhansk region) a forest base of terrorists was detected and destroyed. The leader of the subversive group (Russian military, call sign “Yamal”) and his subordinates (snipers, submachine gunners, machine gunners) were detained.
According to the documents seized from the terrorists and the statements they gave to SBU investigators, the group prepared for a criminal armed attack on the units of the Armed Forces and Security Service of Ukraine in the next few hours. The detainees also planned acts of sabotage on railway transport facilities.
Explosives, a reactive infantry flamethrower RPO-A “Shmel”, three RPGs, grenades for the grenade launcher, large amount of ammunition for automatic arms, F-1 grenades were seized from the terrorist base.
Criminal proceedings against the detained militants in terms of Article 258 (Terrorism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine have been initiated.
