On August 22, 2014 the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a terrorist group consisting of five residents of Kyiv who prepared terrorists acts in the Kyiv region on the eve and during the festive events on the occasion of Independence Day of Ukraine.
The SBU officers detained criminals during acquisition of firearms (5 “PM” pistols) which the terrorists planned to use to attack the bases of Ukrainian volunteer battalions and the leaders of organizations providing assistance to the soldiers involved in the anti-terrorist operation.
The members of the terrorist group manufactured hand-made explosive devices to commit sabotage in one of the objects of the railway infrastructure to prevent movement of troops and military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
During the search in the apartment of one of the terrorists, law enforcement officers seized components of hand-made explosive devices, RGD-5 grenade and pistol ammunition.
It was established that the terrorist group was coordinated and funded from Moscow by persons affiliated with the head of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
Investigative actions are in progress.
