The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Counterintelligence detained three citizens of Ukraine in Kramatorsk (Donetsk region) on the 1st October 2014. The detainees were involved in terrorist activities in the areas recently liberated by the Ukrainian government from the militants.
It was established that a local resident “I” (1996 YOB) nicknamed “Kozak” (“Cossack”) was a member of Babai’s criminal group and participated in armed attacks on Ukrainian positions.
After the liberation of the Kramatorsk area, and the flight of their commander, “Kozak” along with two other gang members (“K”, 1985 YOB, call sign “Manavar” and “L”, 1968 YOB, served as a `runner’) stayed on for continued subversive activity; committing sabotage and gathering intelligence information on Ukrainian forces.
Operative and investigatory actions in terms of the Article 258-3 (Creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, are in progress.
