Russian paratroopers drown in exercises in the occupied Crimea

    on 07/02/2019 | | Crimea | News

On June 26, 2019, during the execution of planned training parachute jumps at the training range “Old Crimea”, two Russian paratroopers of the Russian occupying troops landed on the water surface and could not free themselves from the parachute suspension system.

“The measures taken to rescue the paratroopers by the emergency rescue service did not produce results, the servicemen drowned,” the press service of the Southern Military District said.

The press release did not specify which military unit the paratroopers belonged to. It is possible they were from the 171st Assault Combat Battalion of the 7th Guards Mountain Assault Division formed in 2017 in Feodosia. The battalion is the first Russian airborne assault military unit to be stationed in the territory of Crimea. The presentation of the battle banner of the 171st Assault Combat Battalion took place on December 2, 2017 in occupied Feodosia.

Russia plans to enlarge the airborne assault battalion of the 7th Division and use it to create a new regiment of the occupying troops in the Crimea after 2020.

Recall that the InformNapalm international intelligence community maintains a permanent section of investigations to identify soldiers and individual military units involved in the seizure and occupation of Crimea.
