On January 17, the Russian news agency RBC reported that the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) detained Sergei Sokolov, former head of the security service of Boris Berezovsky. Sokolov and his colleagues are suspected of illegal possession of weapons and are being checked for involvement in the staging of terrorist acts.

In September 2017, InformNapalm volunteer intelligence community published an exclusive story that supplemented the official information given during a briefing by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on August 17, 2017. The briefing and the story were devoted to one of the operations of the Russian intelligence agencies foiled by the SBU.

InformNapalm community analyzed the algorithms that Russian agents used to lure discharged Ukrainian servicemen, who had participated in the ATO in Donbas, into the territory of the Russian Federation, allegedly to perform high-paying short-term construction works. Many of these servicemen were later abducted and incarcerated in Russia.

Apparently, significant media attention to the failed special operation became the real reason for the detention of Sokolov and his colleagues on bogus charges of plotting staged terrorist acts in Russia. The exposure of the agent assets must have led to a chain reaction, requiring the isolation of the field operators.
